Independent estate agency Ballantynes is joining a trade body which lobbies politicians on behalf of the building industry.
The Edinburgh-based firm is to become an associate member of Homes for Scotland, which represents 200 companies and organisations which deliver 95 per cent of the new homes built in the country for sale each year.
Last year the Scottish Government estimated that 465,000 new homes would be needed by 2035 in order to meet demand - 21,000 new homes to be built every year to maintain the current market, not taking into account population growth over that time.
However, housing output north of the border has slumped by 40 per cent over the past eight years and new-build volumes are at their lowest since 1947.
The promised allocation of financial help for the industry from Holyrood needs a great deal more detail and definition. We sometimes seem to be going one step forward, two steps back says Caroline Elliot, Ballantynes' director of new homes.
