Two men have been arrested following the break-in at a Merseyside estate and letting agency which ended with a police officer being hit and killed by a stolen car.
The agency is believed to have been Oxton Estates on Woodchurch Road, Birkenhead.
During the break-in the burglars stole a red Mitsubishi pick-up which was then pursued by the police at high speed. The pick-up then allegedly mounted a central reservation in an industrial part of Merseyside where two neighbourhood police officers were standing holding a 'stop' device, aimed at slowing the vehicle.
The car hit one of the officers - Constable David Phillips - and was then driven off at speed.
The two men arrested, reported to be aged 18 and 30 from the Oxton and Wallasey areas of Wirral, have been taken to police stations on Merseyside where they are to be interviewed by detectives.
No other details are available.
