High-end agency Savills has announced that it has sold Wentworth Woodhouse - reported to be Britain’s largest residential property - to a Hong Kong-based investment company for £8m.
The purchaser of the 18th century south Yorkshire property is Lake House Group and Savills says exchange and completion are due to take place shortly.
The property has some extraordinary dimensions - it has 124,000 square feet of internal space, is 606 feet wide and has an estimated 350 rooms. It sits in 82 acres of gardens, parkland and woodland surrounded by farmland.
The home, five miles north of Rotherham, was bought in 1999 by architect Clifford Newbold. He died last month.
The agency says Wentworth Woodhouse is “without doubt one of the finest and grandest Georgian houses in England” and is considered to have the longest facade.
Savills says £873,750 stamp duty will be paid on the property.
