Agents Do Charity – the great work continues

Despite it being a short working week, we have once again been inundated with stories of estate and letting agents’ charity work.

Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice: This week saw the launch of the Matterhorn Challenge which aims to raise over £50,000.00 for the Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice in Wales. Undertaking the challenge is Convey Law Conveyancer, Geraint Aubrey, who will be climbing the iconic Matterhorn Mountain in the Swiss Alps.  

The Matterhorn is over 4,000 metres high and represents a significant mountaineering challenge. Aubrey is hoping to build on his fundraising efforts last year, when he raised over £15,000 for Cancer Research UK after climbing three peaks. 

Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice offers comfort, care and support to life-limited children and their families. Convey Law is urging everyone involved in the conveyancing and estate agency industries to get involved.

Together for Short Lives: Earlier this month staff at Leaders took part in a variety of fundraising events – including baking, dressing up, long-distance cycling, rowing and walking, and even sponsored head shaving - in support of Children’s Hospice Week.

Their efforts raised £22,000 nationally for their Charity of the Year partnership with Together for Short Lives, the UK’s leading charity for children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions. 

“We want to raise as much as we can for this wonderful cause during 2015 and we’re very grateful to our customers, business associates and the general public who have so generously supported us so far,” says Paul Weller, Leaders’ CEO.

TDS Charitable Foundation: Organisations supporting education of tenants and landlords are being offered funding from the TDS Charitable Foundation. 

The Foundation, which launched in 2014, has already funded a range of projects across the country and it is offering to fund projects up to £20,000, with the aim of promoting higher standards in the private rented sector through better awareness amongst tenants and landlords. 

The deadline for applications is 4 June 2015 and can be made via the TDS Charitable Foundation. 

Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity: Last week Landlord Action held a ‘Rumble with the Agents’ boxing event, raising £18,000 for the Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity. 

The event, which was a first for the property industry, was a sell-out success with nearly 300 estate agents, landlords and developers attending.

The twelve boxers from Savills, Life Residential, Rushfield Ltd, Panther Securities, Winkworth, Infiniti Properties, Fraser and Co and Landlord Action’s very own Paul Shamplina, kept the crowds on the edge of their seats (some out of them and standing on them), demonstrating all the time and effort they have put into training over the last four months. 

The event, which took place at The Holiday Inn in Finchley Central, was filmed by Channel 5 as part of a wider documentary they are preparing to air in June following the work of Landlord Action. 

“For a while now we at Landlord Action have wanted to run an event to support a children’s charity and we chose Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity for all the incredible work they do in providing emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. Being an avid boxing fan there was no better way to raise money for a very worthy cause than to bring together some of my property industry peers for a ‘rumble in the ring’. Bring on next year,” Shamplina said.

Alzheimer’s Society: Lettings software provider OnBoardPro is donating 10p of all transactions it makes to the Alzheimer’s Society. The firm, which is based in the North East, also took part in a charity walk for the Alzheimer’s Society – which is its chosen charity for 2015 – in April.

Weston Hospicecare: Staff and friends from Garry Berryman’s Estate Agents in Burnham joined partner agents Town & Country and Hobbs & Webb to take part in the Weston Beach Colour Run. 

The team’s efforts raised a total of £1,118.45 for Weston Hospicecare.

"It was a fantastic event; I can't say our group would win too many awards with our speed, however it was uplifting to see so many people support this great cause - a very enjoyable afternoon," said David Powell, the principal of Mayfair.
