Agents Do Charity - from England to Africa...

In charitable works, as in the rest of our industry, January is a time to reflect on what’s been achieved and plan for the year ahead. So this week we’re looking at good works done by some of our colleagues in recent months.

Trinity Winchester: Belgarum Estate Agents had a great 2015 in terms of business accomplishments, achieving the best ever figures to date as well as voluntary and fundraising contributions to the firm’s 2015 Charity of the Year, Trinity Winchester. 

This fine charity helps Winchester’s homeless and vulnerable people. Belgarum raised a fantastic amount for Trinity Winchester and were ranked in Just Giving’s top three per cent of fundraisers in 2015.

Fundraising efforts throughout the year included participating in The Big Sleep Out whereby a £1,500 donation helped sponsor the event but a massive £1,735 was raised in sponsorship to support Managing Director John Leeson and 5 members of his staff slept rough for the night in the Cathedral grounds. Then in September, the Belgarum ladies took part in the 5km ‘Run or Dye’ race raising a further £326.16.

In addition to fundraising, staff at Belgarum also supported Trinity Winchester with several cooking sessions in the kitchen; food runs to Sainsbury’s Badger Farm and Greggs in the city; Wear Your Gloves to Work Day; jobseekers workshops as well as help on the Christmas market stall.

The firm’s charity of the year for 2016 will be Key Changes Music Therapy, which hosts projects for disadvantaged children and adults in Winchester with emotional issues through a creative method of music therapy.

PresentAid - Familes In Africa: Searches UK and its clients have raised almost £2,000 to donate hundreds of chickens to help improve the lives of numerous families in Africa.

The chicken initiative began in October with Searches UK pledging to donate chickens to families in Africa who were in desperate need of aid. The gifts promised to provide an additional income for these families, extra food and a means to improve their lives.

Montserrat Cano, PresentAid’s campaign manager, says: “We are extremely grateful for the support from Searches UK and their clients for their donations made to PresentAid. Chickens are one of the most popular gifts given to people living in poverty in developing countries as they can help families earn an extra income by selling eggs at a market, for example, to help them buy food and medicine.”
