Zoopla buys tech firm that created 1,500 agency websites

Zoopla Property Group has acquired the estate agency website specialist design firm Technicweb.

The acquisition - its announcement was buried in yesterday's annual figures presented to the City by ZPG - means Zoopla now owns the Braintree-based firm which has created over 1,500 websites for agents.

The firm has a team of 22 designers, programmers and project and account managers.

Technicweb spokesman Andrew Clack says the acquisition opens up "opportunities [that] we will be able to offer agencies as a result."

Separately, Zoopla has also announced investment in and a partnership with Neos, a home insurance provider which boasts Match Of The Day presenter Gary Lineker amongst its other backers.

The firm offers what ZPG describes as "the latest connected home technology 24/7 assistance" - a service which launches to the market early next year.

ZPG chief executive Alex Chesterman describes the two deals as "reaffirming our mission to provide the most useful resources for consumers when finding, moving or managing their home."

Really? Gary Lineker? Home insurance would be the last thing I would think he would advertise. Anyway, what do I know?

Interesting acquisitions from Zoopla, who really seem to be going to town on this sort of thing in recent times. Some could argue, though, that they are putting too many fingers in too many pies. Then again, with the battle with OTM seemingly over, they need something else to do with their time.

Can't say I'd heard of either of the companies before, but both seem to have decent reputations. Will be interesting to see what Zoopla has in mind for them. We have seen't much from Bricklane.com, or whatever it's called, and I fear the same could be the case here.
