Countrywide has denied speculation in the industry that the names of its Hamptons International and John D Wood & Co brands would be altered to reflect their ownership by the parent company.
There had been rumours at MIPIM, the international real estate conference, and amongst some Countrywide insiders that the names may be changed to Hamptons Countrywide and John D Wood Countrywide.
Last year Countrywide’s chief executive Alison Platt told investors that the organisation would always remain what she called “a house of brands” but will nonetheless move to “fewer, stronger brands” in the future. But at the time she said any rebranding would not be merely “changing names” which she described as “a very expensive waste of time.”
A spokeswoman for Countrywide says no change is being to the Hamptons title while a spokesman for John D Wood & Co says its formal title - including the “& Co” - means its brand would remain distinctive given its status as a separate commercial company.
