Growing number of vendors say their plans are on ice until after EU referendum

A survey of 1,000 people shows that a significant number in each region of the UK are putting their sales plans on ice until after the result of the EU referendum in June.

London leads the way with a strikingly high 47 per cent saying they will wait until after June 23 to buy or sell. Other regions In other regions between 11 and 15 per cent of people are deferring their house sales and purchases for this reason.

Forty six per cent of those aged between 16 and 24, and 43 per cent of those aged between 24 and 35 said they intend to wait for the outcome of the vote.

This contrasts with 16 per cent of those aged between 45 and 54 and just nine per cent of those aged 55 and above.

The firm says it found a similar situation in Scotland in 2014 when would-be buyers and sellers deferred their plans until the outcome of the independence referendum. It says that last year up to a quarter of moves were delayed until after the General Election.
