Purplebricks seeks new ad agency - but runs into trouble with watchdog

Advertising industry website Campaign Live says Purplebricks has made a shortlist of four creative consultancies to handle its marketing - while the hybrid agency itself has just been ordered to change the wording on some of its advertising.

Last week Estate Agent Today reported that Purplebricks and its original ad agency, BMB - with which it had worked since before the agency launch - had split because of “creative differences.”

Now Campaign says four marketing companies - Snap, Karmarama, Lucky Generals and Now - have been shortlisted. The remit of the successful firm will be to create “brand and broadcast advertising.”

A final decision is expected to be made by Purplebricks next month.

Meanwhile the Advertising Standards Authority has upheld three out of five complaints made to it concerning Purplebricks; one of those upheld was submitted by online agency House Simple.

The complaints were about a TV ad and the agency’s website, containing claims regarding no upfront payments, securing the best price for the property, and the implicit suggestion that the agency may charge lower fees than its competitors.

The ASA ruled that the specific wording on the site and in the advertisement should not be used again.

Tut tut PB - hopefully this is the start of more wrist-slaps which get the advertising of these firms into shape, I won't hold my breath though.

However how many people did the advert convert before they had to change it. As far as I am aware there is no fine from the ASA just a warning to remove or change an advert?
