Agents Do Charity - the ESTAS awards day edition...

Many of the country’s top agents are at The ESTAS 2016 this afternoon, but we’re delighted to honour excellence in charitable work as well as superb customer appreciation.

Alzheimer’s Society: Laura Fiddes-Baron, new business manager at Oulsnam Estate Agents, writes that a group of her colleagues - and Laura herself - have had experience of loved ones and friends suffering from dementia. They decided to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society by conquering outward bound challenges.  

“We started off going over huge tractor tyres which were almost bigger in height than the shortest in the team. There was then quite a long run up and down some hills to the next series of obstacles - a lake crossing, a crawl through a muddy water pit and a trench. By this point all of us were totally plastered in mud with no going back. The rest of the course offered us the following challenges 12 foot high solid log walls (some with ropes to get up, others without), neck high with muddy water trenches and lakes to cross, cargo nets, monkey bars, crawl through spaces filled with thick muck mud and water, a water slide and many more challenging obstacles” she says.

"The nicest thing about the whole event was the sense of team spirit. Everybody was willing to help each other over some of the trickier obstacles and complete strangers would stop to check you were ok. We are all immensely proud of one another for completing such a tough event and even prouder that we have managed to raise over £600 for the Alzheimer’s Society in so doing.”

Breast Cancer Care: Herbert R Thomas (HRT) estate agents recently conducted an auction that raised over £5,000 for Breast Cancer Care.

Andrew Thomas, director and auctioneer at HRT, conducted the auction at the Wales Millennium Centre. No fewer than 420 people attended the event which included a dinner, silent auction and speeches from cancer survivors.

Players from the Welsh rugby team including Jamie Roberts, Dan Lydiate, Jonathan Davies and Rhys Priestland also took part in a special fashion show where they walked with cancer survivors.

Breast Cancer Care aims to provide information and offer emotional and practical support to people affected by breast cancer, and bring people affected by breast cancer together. The charity campaigns for improvement in standards of support and care, and promotes the importance of early detection.

Rosemere Cancer Foundation: Matthews Benjamin and Fine & Country Lakes and North Lancs are donating £100 for every house sale to Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

The agency, which has offices in Lancaster, Kendal, Windermere and Ambleside, began donating to the charity in honour of former managing director David Benjamin, who lost his battle against skin cancer last summer at the age of 53.

Matthews Benjamin is also sponsoring 70 individuals in this year’s Great North Swim on June 11, with the funds raised going to to support a melanoma research project. 

The Rosemere Cancer Foundation conducts research and purchases equipment and training that cannot be funded by the NHS; it serves cancer patients throughout South Cumbria and Lancashire via local hospitals and regional treatment centres.
