Agents Do Charity - despite the referendum rumpus

Much of the nation’s attention may have been on saying Remain or Leave in the EU Referendum but this enormous decision did not deter agents finding time to do good works too.

That’s what these heroes did...

Agents’ Giving: Since launching two years ago, agents have used the Rightmove fund to turn £70,000 worth of grants into £750,000 for amazing causes. The fund, which is administered by property industry charity Agents Giving, helps agents with the set-up costs for their charity events.

Whether it’s running five kilometres or learning the waltz, Agents Giving volunteers have been finding ways to challenge themselves in support of a wide range of charities, both in the UK and overseas. To help make this possible, all fundraising activities are supported by a grant from property website and Agents Giving partner, Rightmove. 

This grant is set at 10 per cent and can help to cover the costs of equipment, registration fees, or any necessary training.

Peter Knight, Agents Giving Chairman, says: “We are well on our way to achieving the £1m fundraising milestone. We’re completely thrilled with the progress made so far – an incredible £750,000 sent to charitable causes, with over £100,000 of fundraising still due to come in, the grants of which have already been paid out. We’re very grateful for the support from Rightmove as this really helps all of our fundraisers to reach their goals and support these vital organisations.”

Cancer Research UK: The Ryder & Dutton Rawtenstall team are proud to have taken part in the 24-hour Relay for Life event for Cancer Research UK in Rossendale. 

Some 35 teams were taking part in the relay which involved members of each team walking for a length of time round a running track. Live music and events were taking place throughout,  tents were pitched and people camped overnight.

Jeannette Schofield, part of the Rawtenstall sales team is living with cancer and battles every day without complaint. She also attended the event with her own team 'Jeannette's Corkers' along with the Ryder & Dutton Rawtenstall sales team named 'Schofield's Strollers' in support of Jeannette.

Between the two teams we have raised over £2,000 and donations are still coming in. Team captains Helen Norman and Jeannette Schofield wish to thank everybody for all the kind donations and they especially want to thank their team members for all their hard work - walking, running and almost crawling.

Habitat for Humanity: Fresh from a very busy SAFEagent Awareness Week, the chair of the SAFEagent Steering Group, John Midgley, took off for a very different kind of challenge - building homes for orphans in Malawi.

John and his team from Touchstone - a SAFEagent member firm - are working in partnership with the charity Habitat for Humanity for the next three years, to provide homes for vulnerable children and orphans in Malawi. As part of Touchstone’s commitment to Habitat for Humanity, they will fund and build 24 houses over the next three years. A team from the business will visit each year to get hands on experience, and build the homes.

“It might sound like cliché, but these people really have nothing, and seeing the difference we were able to make even in that short space of time was incredible.The homes we’ve built will transform these children’s lives. The properties we provide will be in the legal ownership of the children – so as well as having shelter now, their futures are also safeguarded. It was such an amazing experience for us as a team, and we can’t wait to go back and do more next year” says John.
