Agents Do Charity - after yet another amazing week...

Despite each day bringing remarkable headlines - not necessarily good news for a market wanting stability - estate agents are nonetheless dedicated to doing good work.

Agents Giving/MacMillan Cancer Support: In late June at Amersham, estate agents and suppliers to the industry joined Agency Express in their annual fast paced charity fundraiser, the Agency Express Soapbox Challenge.

The event is an amateur driver’s race where teams come with one goal, to build and design the ultimate gravity powered Soapbox kart. Then fuelled solely by guts and gravity drivers race against the clock on a mile long downhill track.

After three nail biting runs down the mile long track the winners Gilson Bailey estate agents from Norwich, completing the mile in 2:36 and winning £500.

Second place went to team CB Slade estate agents from Cirencester, completing the mile in 2:50 and winning £250; third went to team Clive Emson Auctioneers from Chelmsford, completing the mile in 2:53 and winning £100.

Gilson Bailey also took home the ‘Best Dressed Kart’ award for their spectacular Jeep themed kart which unfortunately by the end of the day did see a bit of wear and tear.  The ‘Wooden Spoon’ award was presented to Revive who recorded the slowest time, completing the course in just under four minutes.

Henry Cohen Campus Fair, Leeds: Estate agency Manning Stainton has supported the annual fund raising fair to help the organisations who use the Campus site and its facilities. These include the Leeds Jewish Free School, Brodetsky Primary School, The Zone recreational facility and after school club, Leeds Maccabi FC and the scouts, cubs and guide groups.

Louise Lawrence of Manning Stainton’s Moortown branch says: “The Henry Cohen Campus is right at the very heart of the Leeds Jewish community and does an amazing job both on an educational and recreational level. However, like all organisations, budgets are tight which means events like the summer fair need to be a success and we are delighted to do our bit to help.”

Deposit Protection Service: The DPS has donated another £20,000 to charities in three locations across England.

Some £10,000 has gone to Calderdale SmartMove in Halifax, £5,000 to No Limits, in Southampton and £5,000 to Bosco House in Merseyside.

Daren King, Head of Tenancy Deposit Protection at The DPS, says: “Since the launch of our charity fund The DPS has given £160,000 to housing charities and we’re delighted to continue to fund such crucial work.”

The DPS’ donation to Calderdale Smartmove will help provide secured bonds to private landlords and house another 23 individuals and families.

Bosco House is a small charity that provides bed spaces to single, homeless men, many of whom have substance misuse problems, mental health issues and have an offending background, and The DPS’ donation will help open a new hostel in Sefton that will house 13 homeless young people.

No Limits aims to relieve and prevent suffering caused by mental or physical ill-health or by social or economic circumstances amongst local young people with an information, advice and counselling service.

The DPS, the UK’s largest provider of deposit protection services, established a fund in 2014 to assist charities that support the homeless and those who need help to live independently.
