Stansted estate agent Shaun Whiter says he wants to train to be a para-athlete after losing both legs in a horrific road accident.
Jan Adamec, from Haverhill, yesterday pleaded guilty to injuring Whiter and his friend Joey Abbs by dangerous driving on July 1.
Whiter - who was expected to sign for Newmarket Town Football Club this season - was helping Abbs, whose car had a puncture near Newmarket.
The Ipswich Star newspaper says that as the two men were preparing to change a tyre on Abbs’ car, Adamec’s Ford Focus crashed into the back, crushing the two men. Adamec will be sentenced on Friday, September 9.
Meanwhile the local community is helping Whiter, who is engaged and due to marry his fiancée Charlotte Way next summer.
A benefit football match at Newmarket Town has already raised £12,000 and a fund has been set up for his treatment which will include wearing prosthetic legs and physiotherapy to help him learn to walk on them.
There is also a charity concert at Bishop’s Stortford Football Club on August 27.
