A hit-and-run driver has been jailed for three years and four months after a crash near Newmarket which left an estate agent with life-changing injuries.
Shaun Whiter, a 27 year old Stansted estate agent, was changing a tyre on a car when Jan Adamec of crashed his vehicle into the agent on July 1.
The Herts & Essex Observer reports that a court in Cambridge heard that Adamec pinned Whiter against the bonnet of his black BMW 320, before reversing and driving away.
Whiter, an active sportsman, was critically injured as was his friend at the scene in a separate vehicle, Joey Abbs.
Whiter has subsequently had both of his legs amputated below the knee.
Adamec, a chef, initially denied all charges in conncected with the incident but eventually pleaded guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Both victims are reported to have had their vehicles’ hazard lights on, were wearing hi-viz jackets and had several torches as they changed the tyre.
