Annual house price inflation is 1.3 per cent according to Your Move - even though prices dipped 0.1 per cent in the past month.
The average price at the end of September in England and Wales was £297,287, up £3,890 on the same month last year.
However, transactions during September - 63,000 - show a striking 20 per cent drop on the same month last year.
Oliver Blake, Your Move managing director of Your Move, says the future of the market depends on some extent at least on “what government support may be offered to those looking to buy and who will ultimately influence market activity.”
Fifteen of 108 council areas analysed by the agency have shown price falls in the past year - a third of those are in south east England.
