Agents Do Charity - the never-mind-the-ballots edition

There’s no sign yet that the snap General Election is distracting our industry from continuing its fine record of doing good work for others - perhaps quite the reverse.

So never mind the ballots, what about the charity work?

Crisis: JLL has raised over £740 for homeless charity Crisis over Easter by raffling chocolate eggs at its offices, with many winners kindly donating their prizes to local hospitals and churches. , spreading the community spirit over Easter.

Lucy Morton, head of residential agency at JLL, says: “We’re delighted to not only have raised money for Crisis this Easter, but that staff and children at a number of hospitals, as well as care home residents, ministry and parishioners at local churches who have also benefitted thanks to the kind donations of our winners. I can imagine that there were a lot of happy faces when the eggs arrived!”

Heroes4Hire Handymen: Countrywide has teamed up with Heroes4Hire Handymen via its Bridgfords and Entwistle Green lettings businesses in Manchester and Cheshire.

Heroes4Hire Handymen helps former armed forces veterans get back into work and makes the most of the work ethic, skills and attention to detail of ex-servicemen and women. They will carry out a broad range of services for Countrywide, from daily repair jobs to end of tenancy property health checks and preparing a property to let.

Over the last six months Countrywide has been working with Heroes4Hire to create a maintenance concept that is easy and straightforward for landlords and tenants. Each handyman undergoes a five week residential training course covering decorating, joinery, plumbing, building, plastering and more.

The roll out programme began this month with local handymen based in Greater Manchester, South Manchester and Cheshire. This will be followed by a 12 month national roll-out meaning the business will support more ex-service personnel into more jobs, and more of Countrywide’s customers will benefit from the maintenance service.

Beatson Cancer Charity: Golfers from across the construction, housing and property sector in Scotland came together earlier this month to raise funds for the Beatson Cancer Charity at an action-packed day at Dundonald Links, venue for the 2017 Scottish Open.

The heat was supported by industry partners Scottish Construction Now, Scottish Property Federation and Scottish Housing News. Simple Energy Scotland were crowned the construction, housing and property sector winners and triumphed over the competition to go forward to compete at the Business Fours Grand Final on May 24 at St Andrews.

Sponsorship for Business Fours is provided by the Scottish Property Federation and tournament charity partner Beatson Cancer Charity received £550 from a raffle supported by SEC Glasgow and McDonald Cardrona Hotel at the Dundonald heat.

Brittle Bone Society: Agency Manning Stainton has supported a coffee morning which raised over £1,600 for the Brittle Bone Society. The morning of coffee, tea and cakes was organised by Joanna Cannon, with proceeds going towards the amount her friend Caroline Nicholls is hoping to raise when she runs the London Marathon this weekend. 

Joanna says: “Caroline has never run a marathon before and is attempting to raise £3,000 for the society.”
