Agents Do Charity - the 'so much for a quiet August' edition...

Remember when August used to be quiet with not much news?

This year, whether it’s industry upheavals at Countrywide, Purplebricks and Agents’ Mutual, or global news from the US and Brexit talks, it’s been non-stop.

But as ever this is an opportunity to reflect on the stories of good work done by our industry - stories that don’t always get reported elsewhere.

Fine & Country Foundation: The ladies of Fine & Country Solihull will be getting their guns out to raise money for vulnerable local women. On Friday September 8 they will be making their way Three Lakes Gun Club in Tanworth in Arden for an exciting day of clay shooting for an important cause.

The day is open to both beginners and experienced shooters. For those who do not have their own guns, they can receive expert fittings to ensure that they are given the most suitable weapon for their size and experience level.

The women will be supervised by two experts, Owen Hastings and Sara Chambers. Owen has shot for Great Britain in the Olympics and Sara won the title of World Champion of English Shooting 2015.

Following the shoot, the ladies can relax over lunch provided by Three Lakes Gun Club where they can find out more information about the reason they have gathered together. 

Through The Fine & Country Foundation, the women will be supporting Birmingham & Solihull Women’s Aid (BSWA). 

This women’s homeless charity and community reintegration organisation are looking forward to starting a new project geared towards older women who have long-term abuse and isolation to merge them back into the community. The concept of ‘women helping women’ was key to the ladies of Fine & Country Solihull who are excited to see the impact their fundraiser will have upon these women in need of support.

East Leeds Football Club: A local football team has taken delivery of a brand new playing strip, courtesy of Manning Stainton.

Representatives of East Leeds FC called into the Crossgates branch of the agency to receive the kit from branch manager Lesley Robinson ahead of the forthcoming season. 

Team manager Matthew Nealon says: ‘It is a fantastic gesture by Manning Stainton to sponsor our new kit and we will certainly be the envy of all the other teams in the league. Hopefully our performances will match our appearance.’

Matthew formed East Leeds FC seven years ago and the team now competes in the Leeds Combination Division 1 as well as the Leeds Sunday Summer League.

They play their home games at Skelton Road in the East End Park area of the city.

Fine & Country Foundation (again): On Sunday September 3 Lucy Robinson, partner at Fine & Country Banbury, will be taking part in a 10k run with a difference.

Held at Welsh Road Farm in Warwickshire, 4,600 runners will embark on the muddiest run of their lives. The abundance of obstacles along the route make teamwork an important part of this event. Many runners choose to run in ‘wolf packs’ to help each other climb log walls, wade through mud rivers and get untangled from nets.

Lucy will be taking part in the event on behalf of The Fine & Country Foundation to raise money for Helping Hands Community Project. 

Fine & Country Banbury have supported this local charity before with events such as Sleep Outs. This event aims to help Helping Hands set up a new café which will be run by volunteers and offer work experience and training for homeless people.

Thurstaton Common: The Wirral public have donated generously and have made a big contribution towards the ongoing preservation of Thurstaston Common.

Last summer Karl Tatler Estate Agents & Lettings and The National Trust partnered to help protect one of Wirral’s most iconic wild places.

To raise funds, Karl Tatler Estate Agents & Lettings have been collecting £1 donations for the environmentally friendly Karl Tatler Bag for Life. In just over a year, the £500 barrier has been smashed with an outstanding £565 raised in donations since June 2016.

Phil Neagle, National Trust Ranger, explains: “Donations have enabled us to purchase materials to extend our all-weather access path.

"Hopefully, with continued support, we will complete a circular route which can be accessed by mobility scooters, electric wheelchairs and buggies. We have had a really positive response to our work and when out on site installing the new path barely a person passes without commenting on how we are doing such a wonderful job. This is a great boost for our volunteers who are working hard to accomplish the task.”
