An interview in an online magazine aimed at the small business sector lifts the lid on some of the structure surrounding Purplebricks’ Local Property Experts.
The SMEWeb interview is with Paul Brown, a former Countrywide agent who joined Purplebricks two years ago; he is the LPE for Sheffield, Doncaster and South Yorkshire.
One year ago he was featured in some publicity and quoted then as having a business employing six LPEs beneath him; now this latest article suggests he employs 16 ‘sub-licensees’ - although this term is not used in the article - plus four support staff.
He describes how when he started in 2015 there was initial scepticism amongst clients as well as others, but this started to be overcome.
“Purplebricks would get a sale, I’d get a 5-star Trustpilot review and word of mouth would spread. They would tell other people at their work place or their relatives and neighbours what an incredible product it is and how easy the process was. It really started rolling. I was getting more work than I could initially handle.”
He says the one of the founding Bruce brothers advised him, when he was feeling overwhelmed with work, to solve the problem by employing LPEs of his own.
The advice was, Brown says in the article, “Invest in getting yourself more people. If I was to grow market share and expand the business then I needed more people.”
Now he says he is on the lookout for more LPEs for his team.
“My biggest problem is finding new local property experts. I spend much of my time trying to find good people as my business grows. The story we are telling now is so different from two years ago. People have seen the product, know it works and want a great service.”

So PB pay very little by definition per sale, the great agents wouldn't work for this amount then it is further diluted by the 'LPE' who is now a job centre in effect, perhaps he should try some ex ~ber and #eliveroo staff too surely they can pick up a pen... how long before we have a PB strike and workers rights claims, luckily for good agents bad news travels fast
This has always been one of the things i noticed when looking into the model with PB, eventually the figures just wont add up. It is a pyramid scheme at its root.
