Well over a third of buyers will view between four and eight houses before putting an offer in on their choice, while just under another third will visit only up to three properties.
Those are the figures from a survey of prospective purchasers by developer Strata Homes, which revealed that 10 per cent of would-be buyers are far more thorough and visit 16 homes or more before submitting an offer.
Perhaps surprisingly, existing home owners tend to view more homes than first time buyers - even when the latter category had a substantial choice of properties within their budget.
Less surprising, the feel of an area was deemed of great importance by 86 per cent of current home owners while this was key to only 61 per cent of first timers.
When it comes to decoration and interior design, 27 per cent of existing home owners were interested, while 50 per cent of first time purchasers regarded it as key.
In terms of information on which to base a choice of property, roughly 27 per cent of all buyers wanting more insight into the legal and buying process.
