A series of leasehold roadshows beginning next month in Manchester aims to throw a spotlight on problems associated with the tenure, and government proposals to introduce reforms.
The free to attend event is presented by the Association of Leasehold Property Enfranchisement Practitioners and hosted by law firm Irwin Mitchell and is the first of a series of regional seminars throughout 2019.
This first event will be on Wednesday November 7 at Irwin Mitchell, One St Peter’s Square, Manchester, between 2pm and 5pm.
Organisers say that enfranchisement experts will be providing invaluable insights into the sector, latest case law and an update on the government and Law Commission’s ongoing consultations on potential reform and its implications for those operating in the sector and wider industry.
This seminar is aimed at professionals with an interest in residential property and is recommended for enfranchisement solicitors and valuation specialists, as well as estate and letting agents, managing agents and conveyancing solicitors.
Jeremy Raj and Chris Baker, both partners at Irwin Mitchell will be hosting the event, and speakers will deliver presentations on a variety of topics pertinent to the sector.
Leigh Shapiro, partner at Irwin Mitchell and expert in residential leasehold law, will provide an update on the Law Commission’s work on enfranchisement and reform, its likely impact on leaseholders and those working in the property industry. She will also deliver an update on the consultation process and raise questions to provoke debate and discussion.
Mark Loveday, a barrister at Tanfield Chambers will present his insight into recent cases affecting the leasehold sector, and Mike Tibbatts, a valuer and ALEP executive committee member, will consider the role of the solicitor and valuer in enfranchisement.
Anna Bailey, ALEP’s director and co-founder, says: “It’s imperative that property professionals operating in the area have a firm grip of leasehold law, which can be very complex.”
