The Donna Louise childrens charity: SDL Group has revealed over £100,000 will be generated throughout 2018 for its chosen charity, The Donna Louise, which was kick-started at its annual conference last month.
During the conference, a number of SDL Group’s business partners committed to support the work of this children’s charity through a variety of business pledges, including rounding up invoices, donating 1p for every £100 of income earned, and making a contribution for every new customer gained during the year ahead, which will raise £51,588.
SDL Group’s director of PRS, Paul Staley, made a charitable commitment of his own by announcing his participation in Tower-to-Tower 2018. This will see Paul take part in gruelling fitness challenge over 350 miles, in just four days and nights.
The first part of the route is a 150-mile cycle from the Eiffel Tower to Le Havre, immediately followed by 115-mile team row across the English Channel. Once the team reach Brighton, it’s a 60-mile trek to the finish at Tower Bridge in London. You can donate to Paul’s challenge here.
People are also invited to participate in the SDL Tour: The Three Peaks. This will see teams travel through England, Wales and Scotland via car, completing five trails, including a mountain climb, in order to win points and be crowned overall winner. The Tour will take place been the 27th and 30th April 2018.
Commenting on the conference and the fundraising efforts, Helen Ellis, joint director of employee engagement and customer insight at the SDL Group said: “SDL Property: 2018 brought together some of the sector’s leading experts alongside our team and business partners provided a platform to share ideas and implement progressive thinking. Most importantly it provided the SDL Group with an opportunity to inform all delegates of the tremendous work The Donna Louise delivers daily, caring for children and young adults with life-limiting conditions and the support it offers to their families.
“This was capped off with the fantastic news raising over £100,000 for such an amazing local charity. We hope everyone will continue to support our upcoming fundraising efforts throughout 2018.”
Leeds Mencap: A total of 29 people from property company Morgans have spent a day volunteering at local charity Leeds Mencap, which supports children and adults with learning disabilities.
It’s the second year that the Morgans team have lent a helping hand at the charity.
This year the dedicated volunteers painted the charity’s reception area and sensory room, cleaned all of the chairs, windows, the ball pool and balls as well as jet washing the path and outside areas. A dedicated and patient group sorted through all of the jigsaws, counting the pieces, and the heating and cooling system was also reprogrammed to be more efficient.
Managing Director of Morgans, Jonathan Morgan, says: “As we have such a big team we can really make a difference in just one day. Everyone worked hard and it was great to see what a change we were able to make at Leeds Mencap. I have always been a big believer in supporting local charities and helping those people in Leeds who really need it, and by giving our team a specific volunteering day, we get a huge amount of buy-in.”

Fine & Country Foundation: The foundation is taking on its most enduring challenge yet as Emma Preston, regional manager for GPEA, will be running 12 marathons in 12 months.
Emma will begin her adventure in Brighton in April 2018 and complete her final marathon in March 2019.
The Fine & Country Foundation is inviting other eager runners to join her on one or more of her marathons, either alongside Emma in the race or cheering her on from the side-lines.
“I’m trying to do something that will become an inspiration to people. If everyone contributes to fighting the causes of homelessness then we can have a real impact on the scale of the problem” she says.
“I haven’t run a distance this far since the London Marathon in 2007. I strained a ligament in my knee in December so I am building my strength back up, but I am still quietly confident that I can do it. All I have to do is get past the first one and I know I can make it” continues Emma.
She is aiming to raise £1,000 per marathon for The Fine & Country Foundation to support homeless charities in the UK and overseas. To join Emma and show your support for her mission, please visit www.fineandcountryfoundation.com.
