London-focussed Buying agency Black Brick has launched a specialist service to cater for divorcing couples.
The company - increasingly regarded by some high end estate agents as the most prestigious buying company in London now - set up the service to give people advice on how much a new home would cost, enabling them to approach a judge with an accurate figure for divorce settlement purposes.
Black Brick also advises clients on what it costs to run a home in a particular area so they can use the information as part of a claim against their spouse; it also finds short-term accommodation for those going through the divorce process.
Managing partner Camilla Dell says: “Divorce is rarely talked about, it’s still a real taboo subject and as such many people don’t realise that there is a range of specialist advisors who can help at what is often a very stressful and highly emotional time.
“We recently worked with a client, charging a flat fee to take them on specialist tours to show them what £10m, £15m, £20m all the way up to £50m buys you in Central London. We also spent time educating the client on what the running costs are for homes in each price range. The time spent with the client greatly assisted her in court.”
The agency says that no less than 10 per cent of its business in 2017 was down to divorce.
London is regarded by some High Net Worth Individuals as to be something of a divorce capital because of past cases where high settlements have been reached in some divorce hearings.
In October 2017, Princess Tessy of Luxembourg chose London for their divorce and in February 2018, Tatiana Akhmedova won a £453m payout – a 41.5% share of Farkhad Akhmedov's £1 billion-plus fortune, a ruling which would not have won such a high payout abroad, according to experts.
