A survey shows only 18 per cent of vendors favour reviews over personal recommendations when it comes to choosing an estate agent.
Even amongst Millennials - those aged 18 to 34 - the proportion favouring reviews is just 24 per cent.
And when it comes to selecting a conveyancer, a mere 17 per cent say that they trust the opinions of online reviews and customer feedback over that of their friends and family.
The research has been commissioned by PropTech firm When You Move and involved canvassing the views of 2,006 home owners and an unspecified number of what the firm calls “property-minded consumers”.
Some 38 per cent say they do not trust conveyancer referrals from estate agents - those responding say referral fees make them suspicious.
Meanwhile in the same survey some 29 per cent say that once an offer has been accepted by a seller, the level of service they receive from property professionals decreases.
Over a third of those surveyed say the single worst part of the property transaction process was the conveyancing.
