Cancer Research UK: Myddleton & Major agent Philip Holford has raised more than £6,300 for four charities by undertaking a 484-mile cycle challenge in the mountains of the French Pyrenees.

He took on his biggest challenge to date by riding from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean coast, climbing 67,432 ft in the process and suffering three days of monsoon conditions as driving rain and hailstorms tested his endurance.

Keen mountain biker Philip is raising cash for Cancer Research UK, British Heart Foundation, the Alzheimers Society and the Stars Appeal for the Salisbury District Hospital’s second MRI scanner.

“I am aware that as a ‘big unit’ of 105kg cycling up mountains doesn't come naturally but I was up for a challenge and trained hard, including the Brecons, Jurassic Beast and SAMS100 rides. I am very grateful for all the generous donations and incredible support I have received for these great causes and rest assured it provided me with all the motivation and inspiration I needed when pushing myself to the top of each climb” he says.

Young Westminster Foundation: CityWest Residential has donated £30,000 to the foundation as part of its support for the charity over the next three years.

Money from the donation will go towards a number of different projects over the next three years, with the Young Westminster Foundation already supporting youth clubs, training and activities for young people across Westminster.

The donation is just one of the ways that CityWest Residential invests in Westminster with the organisation currently funding an employment service for residents, which last year provided over 150 people with advice and helped over 90 into work.

Oliver Miller, director of CityWest Residential says: “It’s really important to us that we can contribute to the communities we work in and I fully believe this donation will be a big step in helping us to do this.”

Daft As A Brush: A north east property firm is marking its 30th anniversary by walking 30km for a local cancer charity.

Fifteen members of Bradley Hall Chartered Surveyors and Estate Agents, are set to walk 30km in one day for the company’s charity of the year, Daft as A Brush Cancer Patient Care.

The walkers are set to complete the trek around Northumberland and Newcastle in a bid to raise as much as possible for the Daft as a Brush, which makes thousands of journeys annually, offering people not only free transport, but also emotional support from the volunteers who travel with patients.

Neil Hart, group managing director at Bradley Hall says: “Our 30th anniversary year is about accelerated growth, celebrating our recent success with our colleagues, partners and clients while also fundraising for the local charities which provide vital support to our communities.”

To date Daft as a Brush has a fleet of 22 ambulances, 18 of which have been adopted by primary schools from across the region and 2 by the Great North Children’s Hospital.
