He portrays himself as a scourge of the Remoaner elite and a champion of the people, but when it comes to homes Boris Johnson is scarcely the typical person.
Back in the spring he listed his London Georgian town house with Chestertons for £3.75m - that’s over 14 times the price of the average home in the UK.
The property - in fashionable Islington - has finally sold, although the agent is declining to say the price paid.
The Tatler - says Johnson is expected to split the proceeds with his estranged ex-wife Marina Wheeler, who has revealed she has cervical cancer.
Johnson lived at the property from 2009 until the middle of last year after he started dating Carrie Symonds, who at the time was a Conservative Party spin doctor.
The Tatler describes the property as having been “something of a honeypot for the Prime Minister” - when he was Foreign Secretary in 2016 he relocated to a £20m property that came with the position.
So his own Islington hope was let to a Royal Ballet choreographer.
In the light of his various property windfalls, there’s going to be little excuse for him to say he does not understand how stamp duty, evictions and capital gains affect the market.
Meanwhile elsewhere in central London, at Knightsbridge, Harrods Estates is celebrating an even more upmarket deal.
A six-storey terraced period house that has now been converted into three apartments has been sold for what the agency describes as “close to” the asking price of £23.95m.
The agency says the sale price reflects over £4,000 per square foot, a record for the street in Knightsbridge.
“New refurbished properties of this quality in such a prestigious location offering exceptional interior design and specification rarely come onto the market, and when they do, we see record prices” explains Simon Barry, Harrods Estates’ head of new developments.
