Local media in the south west are reporting that a Torquay estate agent took his own life after telling his partner he had had a bad day and his branch was going to “end".
An inquest in Plymouth into the death of Adam Reed heard how he worked for Smart Estate Agents in Torquay.
A series of texts from Reed to his partner Jason Boddy, on the afternoon of May 29 this year suggested that he had a “bad day at work" and that "it wasn't the end of the world but the end of Smart”.
By early evening Boddy went to their home to find Reed - who had made an earlier attempt on his own life in 2010 - had hanged himself in the loft.
The Smart agency has a functioning office in Exeter but the website of the Torbay branch has carried a message since late May saying: “It is with saddest regret that we announce the Smart Estate Agent franchise in Torquay, Smart Estate Agent Torbay LTD, will be closed until further notice following recent events.”
The coroner concluded the Reed took his own life.
