Mystery surrounds a historic agency that has ceased trading after 235 years in business - even though its website is still running and inviting vendors and landlords to sign up.
Pritchards Estate Agent in Bath was established in 1785 and describes it as the longest running agency in the city.
However, while its website appears to be current and operational, anyone calling the firm is told on a recorded sales message that “the company has ceased trading” while those calling the lettings team get no answer whatsoever.
The company was still operating on social media in mid-January and its website says: "We have built a reputation as the number one specialists in prime residential property in and around the city; the strength of our independent brand resting on our team’s wealth of experience, expertise and dedication to securing the best possible deal for our customers.”
It continues: "Established in 1785, we are the longest running independent estate agents in Bath and the premier choice for those seeking to buy, sell, let or rent property in the city. With an unrivalled wealth of experience to draw upon, we know exactly what is required to achieve the very best results for our clients, providing professional advice and guidance every step of the way.”
Estate Agent Today has left emails for the company; local media in Bath say the office door is locked.
