Dawsons: Staff from Dawsons Estate Agents hiked Snowdon last month to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease.

The 2023 Dawsons annual fundraiser was decided as always amongst the team of colleagues who chose to climb the tallest mountain in Wales, Snowdonia.  With all team members giving their charity suggestion, these were then put in a pot where the company’s senior partner Chris Hope picked the 2023 charity out as Motor Neuron Disease Association (MNDA).  

MNDA was nominated by Matt Jones the Gorseinon sales team manager, a charity close to his heart after watching his grandfather suffer with the disease.  Matt wrote a heartfelt poem:

My Grandfather…

A Man who was the stereotypical ‘tough guy’,

A Man who served his country,

A Man who feared nobody,

A Man who feared nothing,

A Man who would give all the care his body would allow,

A Man who would encourage me to keep fit and keep active,

A Man who enjoyed a glass of Whiskey at the end of the day,

A man who would never give up…

Motor Neurone Disease…

A Disease which weakens the muscles, cause them to stiffen and waste,

A Disease which affects how you walk,

A Disease which affects how you talk,

A Disease which affects how you eat and drink,

A Disease which affects how you breathe,

A Disease which affects up to 5000 adults at any one time,

A Disease with no cure,

A Disease which made my grandfather give up…

So for now, I raise a glass of Whiskey to my Grandfather and let him know that this fight is not over!

With the 13 team Snowdon members signed up they undertook some practice hikes up Pen-Y-Fan a few weeks prior to the main event. 

On Friday 22 September, Dawsons Team Snowdon embarked on their journey to Snowdonia, with lettings director Ricky Purdy at the helm of the bus, which was hired from the Glamorgan Scouts.  The team stayed in the Red Dragon Holidays cabins for the duration of their visit, located perfectly within minutes from the base of Snowdon.

On the morning of Saturday 23 of September, team Snowdon split into two groups at the base, feeling a wave of excitement and nerves as they began their adventure up the Snowdon Ranger Path and Rhyd-Ddu path.  

During their hike, both groups endured rain, fog, and a rainbow whilst hiking up the unknown path.  The whole team regrouped at the summit for a team photo before they all began their descent.  

There were mixed feelings in the pub afterwards with Kate Phillips noting ‘that was a once in lifetime experience, I shall not be embarking on again’, all with a smile on her face of course, and with many others in the group planning a revisit very soon or even looking towards their next fundraising challenge.  The collective feeling of accomplishment was clear to see throughout the team who have now raised over £4,000 to date.

Thomas Morris: Agency brand Thomas Morris has raised more than £5,000 to support the St Ives Christmas Lights for 2023.

Supported by Agents Giving and The Guild of Property Professionals, Jemma Woodruff and team at Thomas Morris Estate Agents St Ives said they take great pride in their contribution to the St Ives Christmas Lights, prompted by a heartfelt plea from the organisers.  

They hope that their donation has played a pivotal role in ensuring the continuation of the Christmas Light event, which has been a tradition in their town for many years.

Jemma said: “The eagerly awaited switch on ceremony for the St Ives Christmas Lights is on 18 November at 5pm.  Please come along and show your support and share in the festive cheer.  Your presence and support are essential in making this event a shining success and will bring the community together in celebration.”

George Edwards Estate Agency: Paul Halliday, the owner of George Edwards Estate Agency, is gearing up for an awe-inspiring trek to the Everest Base Camp, not only as a personal challenge but as a mission to make a significant difference in the fight against Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

The motivation behind this incredible journey is deeply personal. Just after starting a relationship, Paul's partner's father, Mark Martin, received the devastating diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease. 

Witnessing Mark's courageous battle was nothing short of heart-wrenching. Despite the gradual loss of his voice and mobility, Mark's indomitable spirit shone through, often expressed through his iconic thumbs-up gesture.

Paul and his father have chosen Everest Base Camp as their battleground in honour of Mark and countless others affected by MND. The challenge of the trek reflects the immense struggle that MND patients face daily. It's a gruelling 14-day journey through harsh terrain and punishing altitudes, reaching up to 17,598ft (5,364 metres). The physical and mental demands mirror the relentless battle against MND.

Throughout their journey, Paul and his father will share pictures and videos, through their Just Giving page, allowing supporters to witness the breathtaking landscapes, the challenges they face, and the determination in their eyes.

But this journey isn't just about Paul and his partner. It's about raising funds to support the My Name'5 Doddie charity and their fight against MND. Their goal is to raise a minimum of £1,000, and they are ready to raise the bar if they reach it. Every pound donated will bring them one step closer to finding a cure for this devastating disease.
