A property consumer group has had its Twitter account suspended and its bid to be reinstated has failed - and it doesn’t know why.
The Home Owners’ Alliance is a UK consumer group that exists, in its own words, “to make homeownership easier and fairer for people.”
HOA is a mainstream organisation which has largely uncontroversial content. In the last 10 years it has campaigned on a variety of ownership issues as well as publishing property advice on a wide range of topics; spokespeople have regularly been quoted in national news outlets, property publications and occasionally been represented on government forums.
However in mid-December its Twitter account, @HomeOwnersAll, was permanently suspended with no prior warning. The body has contacted Twitter repeatedly since that time, using the platform’s appeals form, but with no luck at getting reinstated.
HOA chief executive Paula Higgins has told Estate Agent Today: “We have no idea why. We don't even do property porn. 😂 Just practical conveyancing advice. We have been going through the normal appeals process but it's all automated. We didn't want to go public until now.”
The Alliance is now encouraging supporters to tweet @Twitter Support and @elonmusk urging that the HOA be reinstated
The eccentric billionaire, inventor and entrepreneur Elon Musk bought Twitter late last year for an eye-watering US$44 billion.
Since that time he has controversially changed moderation policies, employment practices and - most recently - reportedly fired an engineer because his own tweets were getting relatively modest impressions despite the fact he has some 129m followers.
