Agents have questioned whether the shift to self-employed agency models could reduce the level of experience in the sector.
Speaking on the latest Agents MVMT Pass the Syrup podcast, presenter Ben Madden of Fine & Country Turnham Green Terrace questioned if there is a risk from new entrants starting as self-employed with no experience.
Reece Maddick, of RedRoots Property, agreed.

He said: “I don’t know if the first lace to start is going self employed.
“If I wanted to become a hairdresser, I can’t just rock up and say I am going to join this brand and start cutting hair straight away.
“We are selling someone’s biggest financial asset and there is a sense of responsibility to that.
“I am telling someone what their home is worth but the self-employed model allows anyone to setup without any experience or money behind them."
Fellow guest Megan Eighteen, operations director for Location Location added that agents are assumed by law to be competent.
She said: “If we are sending out people with little or no support or training, not just the self-employed, then it could be a disaster.”
Guests also discussed the pros and cons of the Keller Williams and eXp UK brands.
