Agency fees give Zoopla a financial boost

Higher agency fees and the end of pandemic support boosted Zoopla’s revenue in 2022.

The portal’s annual accounts for the year to December 2022 shows revenue rose by 19% last year to £87.2m, helped by “price rises and the end of free charge contracts” offered during the pandemic.
It still posted a loss of £6.2m though, albeit lower than the £17.8m of 2021.

The results also highlighted impairments taken against some of its subsidiaries, including £1.6m for Technicweb, £5.3m for Websky and £1.4m for Yourkeys.

Zoopla said: “The impairment follows the updated group strategy to focus on the flagship Alto product.”

As of the end of 2022, Zoopla had 483 employees, up from 456 in 2021. Staff costs also rose from £27.6m to £29.5m.

There have been staff changes since the results.

Zoopla outsourced its customer service operation for agents in May, a move that the portal said will improve the experience for users.
