Crest Nicholson: Housebuilder Crest Nicholson has donated new planters to Cannington in Bloom on behalf of its community at Grange Meadows in Cannington, Bridgwater.
The sustainable, self-watering planters are located close to the entrance of the village and make a pleasant welcome for both visitors and villagers alike.
A plaque has been placed on the planters to commemorate the donation.
Cannington in Bloom is a community gardening group which forms part of the national Britain in Bloom movement. Made up of volunteers, the group works together to improve the local environment, promoting greener surroundings, sustainability, environmental responsibility and community involvement. This year Cannington will take part in the South West In Bloom competition. Judges attended the site in July, with results due to be announced in October this year.
Clare Brimble, sales and marketing director at Crest Nicholson South West, said: “The work of Cannington in Bloom not only brings local people closer together, but it also helps to make the village a more beautiful place. We’re delighted to be able to support their important work with this donation and hope both villagers and visitors are enjoying seeing the beautiful planters as they enter Cannington.”
Tina Uren, from Cannington in Bloom, added: “We would like to thank the team at Crest Nicholson for their very generous donation which has enabled us to purchase the stunning planters at our village entrance. We’re also delighted that the new homes in Crest Nicholson’s Grange Meadows development are attracting new contributors to ‘greening’ our village, including new water wardens and prize winners in our front garden competition.”
Arun Estates: Four community estate agents have set themselves a pioneering walking challenge to undertake during the entire month of September.
The initiative, in aid of The Dogs Trust, will feature community volunteers from Cubitt & West, Douglas Allen, Pittis and Wards – all part of Arun Estates – and is also hoped to be a bonding exercise for pet owners.
With an innovative twist, the campaign ties in with Arun Estates’ sales boards which have been creatively adorned with canine companions, in a bid to grab attention and pull at heartstrings.
The Dogs Trust was chosen because it is the premier dog welfare charity in the UK and boasts a century of supporting dogs and their owners.
The Dog Walk Challenge – a month-long call to action that beckons participants to sign up via the official Cubitt & West, Douglas Allen, Pittis or Wards website. Throughout September, entrants will be encouraged to embark on a journey with their furry friends, aiming to complete either 50km or 100km of walking. Participants will log their progress via a submission form while simultaneously securing sponsorships and donations in aid of The Dogs Trust.
Earlier this year, Arun Estates brands – which operate throughout the south east - demonstrated remarkable generosity by channelling over £750,000 towards local food banks.
Furthermore, their outstanding efforts culminated in £40,000 raised for their designated 2023 charity partner, The Children’s Trust.
Aldo Sotgiu, the group managing director, expressed his enthusiasm for the challenge, adding: "It’s a great opportunity to marry health, fitness, community, and charity to one another, and we know that this dog walk challenge is the first step into forming stronger relationships with those in our community and also raising money for a fantastic cause."
As September approaches, Arun Estates and its brands invites all members of the community to join hands, leashes, and paws in an initiative that exemplifies the power of unity, compassion, and canine companionship.
Barratt Homes: Housebuilder Barratt Homes, behind the St Rumbold’s Fields development in Buckingham, has recently supported Buckingham Food Bank, with a donation of £500.
Buckingham Food Bank is run by Buckingham Parish Church. It supports families and individuals in crisis and in need of emergency food by distributing non-perishable and fresh food directly to homes by its volunteers.
Marc Woolfe, head of sales for Barratt David Wilson North Thames, said: “Sadly the number of individuals utilising foodbanks in the past year has reached record numbers of 3m, which is why we feel incredibly passionate about supporting foodbanks in the local communities that we build in.
“No one should go to sleep feeling hungry and it is our duty to support these organisations, who make all the difference tirelessly in their community. It is our honour to work with Buckingham Foodbank whose volunteers selflessly provide crucial support directly to the local community.”
Keith Croxton, from the Buckingham Food bank added: “Since Christmas, the Food Bank has consistently remained busier than ever, so any support is needed now more than ever and is always greatly appreciated. It is organisations like Barratt North Thames who make all the difference, and we are so grateful for their generous donation. Such donations help us to continue to support those in our community who are struggling.”
