Women in property list aims to improve female panel presence

Female representation at estate agency conferences and awards was a big theme of 2023 and now there is a chance to address the imbalance.

Angharad Trueman, a director at well-known agency brand Andrews and president-elect at ARLA Propertymark, has compiled a list of 80 women qualified to speak on property panels.

She was prompted to take action after explaining in a LinkedIn post about a friend being told that there were only male speakers on a panel at a property conference because they couldn’t find any women qualified to speak on the subject.

Trueman said: “I also regularly hear the same excuse about podcasts and online events. I've even started asking who else has been invited to speak on panels when asked, and if it turns out its mostly male, explaining I won't be on the panel until they work to balance it up.

“In my post, I asked people to nominate brilliant women speakers in the property industry who were experts in their field and happy to talk on their subject. I didn’t expect the response I got with 140 comments of brilliant women being tagged.

“I decided to turn it into a pdf list, categorised with short bios about these women and I plan to share far and wide. 

"There are 80 brilliant women listed on it and it means we can stop this excuse happening of not knowing which women are qualified to speak on this subject. Its categorised so easy to find the specialist subject you are looking for. I really hope this will help more women with being able to share their important viewpoints in the future.”
