Housing Secretary suggests homebuyer support is coming

Housing Secretary Michael Gove has given the strongest hint yet that housing measures could be included in the Spring Budget.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt is set to deliver his Spring Budget on 6 March, with Stamp Duty cuts on many housing wishlists, especially ahead of a General Election this year.

Gove hinted at measures for first-time buyers during an interview with The Sunday Times, where he suggested this cohort won’t feel like democracy and capitalism are working for them if they can’t get on the property ladder.

He said: “It’s simply harder for us to make that case if people who’ve got broadly small ‘c’ conservative values, or actually no particular political agenda at all, feel that they’re being shut out.”

The newspaper reports that ideas being weighed up include cuts to Stamp Duty or a 1% deposit mortgage scheme.

Gove told the newspaper that he would do  “everything everywhere all at once.”

He added: “(The chancellor] knows what I am keen on and I won’t say any more than that.”

Sad Gove using a film title ' everything all at once' to be the Conservative lever which tranforms the fortunes of the Tory party.

As the film of that title 'explores philosophical themes such as existentialism, nihilism, surrealism, and absurdism' maybe it is pretty apt as the Conservative party sleepwalks into defeat. As to 1% mortgages, as Housing secretary he should know that a number of 100% mortgages exist, but it is the lending rate that is the elephant in the room, Skipton 5.49% anyone. And if Hunt does a Rishi Rich SDLT giveaway ... that just feeds property value inflation 21% in fact over 29 months due to Rishi as Chancellor car crashing the property ecosystem, then moving on to being PM and doing the same for the other sectors of the economy.

Not being partisan, I just do not like children running departments or our government who should just stay playing around with hedge funds which they 'sort of' understand.
