It was, of course, only to be expected after the lunch – sorry launch – of Rightmove’s latest TV ad, showing Samantha from accounts spraying bits of Golden Delicious all over her computer while dreaming of properties.

Rightmove has, naturally, done some research which shows (we’re going to have to start a new paragraph here, so that you get the full effect)…

… that seven out of eight employees use Rightmove at work.

Apparently, people working in hospitality and tourism use Rightmove all day long, while the biggest lunchtime users are scientists, bankers and engineers.

The advert was, apparently, born out of the lunchtime spike in traffic that Rightmove sees each day.

There is some good news: teachers and nurses are the least likely to go on to Rightmove during their lunch breaks. It’s possibly because they’re either working or doing that funny old-fashioned thing of talking to each other.

Rightmove’s indefatigable director Miles Shipside said: “Whether it’s on their lunch break, at the end of the day, or simply whenever they feel like it, UK property addicts appear to be able to find the time to browse for property at some point during the working day.

“Britain’s property obsession is such that just 13% of Rightmove users can honestly say that they never use the site in their employer’s time.”

Now it just needs an economist to tot up the devastating cost to our national economy.

Do please get back to work!

How about an advert thanking estate agents for being so gullible for using you so you can get even stronger.

Estate Agents are their real customers, bet you wont see a satisfaction survey result put on the tele.

Big flaw with RM is that there is no ''Key word'' search. So based on price, type, beds, location - a 100 listings might come up. Trouble is that without filters to pick up next essentials like - garage - parking, sea view, workshop, annexe - could have meant just 6-7 listings would have come up.

As such Ive heard some people say that other sites such as z, create a faster filtered search. Then I guess by making people have to stay on site longer to manually filter numerous listings is a good ploy to get seo up.

I know Google is about returning best results back based on best match. Lets hope they consider less might be more time saved to people searching for homes.

What kind of fool falls for this PR hype?

160,000 transactions a year , give rightmove whatever credit you like for their involvement in all those transactions, 100% if you like, but I think they are starting to believe their own publicity. “10,000,000 people per month visit Rightmove” really ? ooooh that is 87% of the working population! ergo 7 in 8 people have to be looking at Rightmove at work!
To claim that 87.5% of employees use Rightmove at work is Bonkers! Do 100% of UK employees even have access to the internet at work? I doubt it very much! If every one had work involving a computer that might be the case but if half of all employees have jobs with no computer or mobile reception then this story is simply very hollow and a bit embarrassing

Presumably the ‘rubbish at maths statistician’ that used to work for Shelter now works at Rightmove.
