The chief executive of Zoopla has ruled out allowing private sellers and landlords to list properties directly on Zoopla or PrimeLocation.
In an online question and answer session with readers of Estate Agent Today and Letting Agent Today, Alex Chesterman describes speculation about his portals taking direct sales and lets as “one of the more popular conspiracy theories” in the agency industry.
But he is unequivocal in his answer.
“I can categorically state, as I have before, that we never have, do not now, nor have any plans for the future to accept listings from private vendors or landlords” says Chesterman.
He says there have been numerous opportunities for the websites to take private sellers’ and landlords’ advertising - “we get many dozens of enquiries daily to accept these” - but he says these enquiries are immediately redirected to local agents who are members of Zoopla.
“Our business is about connecting property consumers to local professionals and helping agents win more business. Period” says Chesterman.
