Agents Do Charity - abseiling, tennis-playing and teddy-delivering...

Another Friday, another impressive array of agents doing superb work for causes close to their hearts.

Flamingo Chicks: Goodman & Lilley’s staff have braved an abseil of their local quarry to raise money for Flamingo Chicks, which provides an inclusive community to help give children with disabilities and illnesses such as cancer, the opportunity to enjoy ballet alongside their friends.

Marketing Manager of Goodman & Lilley, Nikita Bennett-Clements, says: “Most of us had a fear of heights so this fundraiser really tested our limits. Whilst there were a few hairy moments along the way, we actually had lots of fun being daredevils for the day and ultimately we are proud to have raised lots of money for Flamingo Chicks.”

Housing Charities: The Deposit Protection Service and its sister organisation in Scotland have donated another £20,000 to charities.

The DPS awarded £5,000 to the charity Luton Accommodation and Move-on Project (LAMP), and The Letting Protection Service Scotland (The LPSS) gave £15,000 to YMCA Glenrothes Supported Accommodation.

Daren King, Head of Tenancy Deposit Protection at The DPS and The LPSS, says: “YMCA Glenrothes Supported Accommodation and LAMP both undertake vital work in their communities, helping those who are in the greatest need of support. Since opening our charity fund we have given around £150,000 to housing charities across the UK and are delighted to continue to fund such important projects.”

For over 23 years YMCA Glenrothes has helped those affected by poverty and disadvantage, including supporting young people in hostels, houses and flats.

LAMP is a small, local charity that has been successfully providing accommodation and support to homeless young people aged between 16 and 25 in Luton, Bedford and the surrounding area for nearly 20 years.

Charities focused on the housing sector can apply for funds via The DPS’ website at www.depositprotection.com/charity. Applications for the next round of awards must be submitted by March 31.

LandAid: The property industry’s top players are competing to raise record sponsorship for charity at the LandAid MIPIM Tennis Classic in association with BNP Paribas Real Estate.

Twenty eight property professionals will don their whites at Cannes Tennis Club for the second ‘Make A Racket’ round-robin, doubles tournament from 9am to 1pm next Wednesday.

The players are raising money for the property industry charity LandAid, which supports disadvantaged children. Top of the fund-raising league to-date, with sponsorship totalling £1,525, is Anthony Tokatly of JPW Real Estate.

But as the countdown to Cannes continues, colleagues and spectators are being urged to get behind all the players by sponsoring them at: www.mipimtennis.org.

LandAid’s mission to end youth homelessness is one that should make the property industry proud, and I believe the whole industry should get behind it.

Teddies For Loving Care Surrey Appeal: Matthew Hawkins, a director at Choices says: “I have been supporting the Teddies For Loving Care Surrey Appeal for a number of years and just over 18 months ago I started to volunteer for the Charity.  Charities like this can only exist with volunteers and donations.

“I feel that it is important to give back to the community and this is my way of doing so. Every week I deliver teddies to St Georges Hospital in Tooting, St Helier In Sutton and the Croydon University Hospital. I always get greeted warmly by the staff and have been dubbed as the Teddy Bear Man.

“It only takes me a few hours and is more rewarding than I ever imagined. Since volunteering I have also found my self getting involved with the charity's social media, where we regularly get sent in photos and post of thanks from the families this appeal helps.
