This list of closures follows around a year of speculation about the future of some brands and offices.
Back in October 2015 the group’s chief executive Alison Platt told investors that the organisation would always remain a “house of brands” but would move to “fewer, stronger brands” in the future. Platt said that rebranding was “not about changing names” which she described as “a very expensive waste of time.”
More recently - just this week - it was announced that in London the John D Wood & Co brand would effectively be taking over Faron Sutaria which had been a distinct brand in London’s sales and lettings market for 40 years.
In addition, a string of other London and Home Counties brands - Alan de Maid, Hetheringtons, Vanet, Fitz-Gibbon, APW Lettings and CHK Mountford - were to be relabelled as being “part of John D Wood & Co.”
The leaked information about closures passed to Estate Agent Today and published below goes much, much further in terms of the number of offices and geography.
Offices across England, Scotland and Wales will be affected, with substantial losses particularly in the Midlands and southern England.
Here is the list in full, as passed to Estate Agent Today and seen by Countrywide: the list contains around 61 offices and Countrywide says there are 59 to close.
It has declined to say which on the list are not affected by the closure programme.

'The Leaked Information' wonder who leaked it, CW by any chance, or some mole within CW
Not surprised. One of the closing offices is in a neighbouring Town to where I am and has struggled for years. Feel sorry for the staff. Hope they all get fixed up with new positions.
Why are there more offices on the list than are supposed to be closing? If there are 59 branches as the article says, why are there 61 locations? Surely someone checks this before publishing it?
I expect the shareholders are getting just a little bit twitchy....
this won't be the end of it i'm sure. expect more closures in the new year of 2017, glad i don't hold any shares
Having worked for one of the brands that was bought, this was a long time coming.
Countrywide bought a bunch of businesses all at the same time, most of which were terrible and had little market share... was rather strange.
The St. Albans office of Taylors has been closed approx 2 months for a much needed refurbishment, I wonder if the delays relate to a consideration to close. I am sorry to say the branch has not done particularly well in quite some years( based upon market share)
Interesting reading for sure. As an Ex Countrywide Branch Manager, they seem to have lost the plot. I maintain my stance that property is our product, but this industry is about people, dismiss that and you lose your base of sellers, landlords and demoralize staff. Lack of Customer Service, Client retention, referral from exceeding client expectations has not served them well. So good luck to the ex CW who have decided to jump ship. As for JDW brand...living in the past.
