Regional agency firm restructures to concentrate on core activities

Cheffins, the six-office Cambridgeshire-based firm, says it is creating ”a new corporate framework” to intensify its focus on estate agency, rural consultancy, commercial property and machinery sectors.”

Established in 1825, the firm has offices in Cambridge, Ely, Haverhill, Newmarket, Saffron Walden and Sutton. Historically it has been involved not only with property and rural consultancy but also fine art auctions, vintage and classic auctions, and tractor and plant machinery.

Simon Gooderham and Philip Woolner have been announced as joint managing partners, with William King remaining as chairman. Mark Peck is now head of the residential department.

“Agents in our residential offices continue to be market leaders in each of the towns and cities in which we operate” says King.

He adds while Brexit has caused uncertainty in both the residential and commercial sectors “we have been relatively unaffected due to the strength of the Cambridgeshire region and have spent time reassuring clients of the resilience of the property market.” The fall in the value of Sterling since the EU referendum has aided some non-residential parts of the industry, he says.
