The National Association of Estate Agents is telling members to delete a spam email purporting to have been sent by the organisation.
In a social media message yesterday NAEA Propertymark said: “We’ve been made aware of a spam email sent to members purportedly coming from ‘Naea Fraud Report’. If you receive it please just delete it.”
This is the second cyber issue for agents in recent weeks.
Last month The Property Ombudsman took the unusual step of warning all agents to be aware of fraudulent ‘buyers’ trying to spread computer virus scams.
The emails on that occasion purported to come from a buyer in China wishing to make a full asking price offer on a property. When asked for more details, the ‘buyr’ send another email with attachments which contained a series of potentially destructive viruses.
At the time a statement from TPO said: “The importance of antivirus software is a given, but it is not a guarantee against computer viruses, so the best defence is also an educated user.”
