The Savills-backed online estate agency YOPA has found itself in glittering company amongst 25 firms listed by business media site LinkedIn as the top UK start ups of 2017.
The definition of start-up may be loose as the list includes relatively long-standing companies such as Uber, Deliveroo, Airbnb, GoCardless and WeWork. Nonetheless the accolade is significant, given that LinkedIn has 106m users worldwide and is a major networking tool amongst some sectors of British business.
The award “celebrates industry disruptors where professionals want to work now” according to a statement.
“This recognition from LinkedIn is a fantastic testament to our world-class team across the country, both in the field and behind the scenes. Our people are driving the business forward and are key to YOPA’s success” explains Daniel Attia, co-founder and chief executive of Yopa.
“Following an exceptional year of growth, with three public companies backing our vision, this accolade from LinkedIn is the icing on the cake.”
In June 2016, YOPA raised £16m in funding from Savills; a further £27m was raised in 2017 with the Daily Mail General Trust and LSL Property Services joining Grosvenor Hill Ventures, the proprietary investment arm of Savills plc.
To determine the 2017 list, LinkedIn looked at members to determine employee growth, job seeker interest via views and applications, member engagement with the company and its employees as well as how well each startup attracted talent.
To be eligible for the 2017 list, companies had to be less than 10 years old, have at least 100 employees, remain independent and privately held and to have at least one round of venture-backed funding.
LinkedIn sifted through a global list of nearly 25,000 eligible venture-backed companies.
