Property Jobs Today: what's the latest industry employment news?

As the property market gears up for a busy autumn period, agents and property firms have been equally busy bolstering their teams to be ready in time for the action.

If your firm has made any appointments or promotions in recent weeks, let us know on press@estateagenttoday.co.uk and we'll gladly promote the news on Estate Agent Today.

We start our latest roundup of the industry's employment news with one of Yorkshire's largest independent agencies, Dacre, Son & Hartley.

Dacres has appointed two new chartered surveyors to join its experienced team - Nathan Smith and Jon Egan.

Nathan, who will be responsible for professional valuations and surveys on the Yorkshire coast, has returned to Scarborough after working in Leeds and London.

"In addition to Nathan’s wide range of experience, he also has excellent and developing practical knowledge, as he is in the middle of extending and restoring his house in Scarborough," says James Wattrus, director and senior surveyor at Dacre, Son & Hartley.

"We are delighted that he has joined us and are confident that he will continue to develop our business in these parts of Yorkshire."

Meanwhile, Jon joined the firm's surveying team earlier this year and will be responsible for professional valuations between Northallerton, Darlington and into Cleveland.

After training at Sheffield University and working in Leeds, Jon worked as a valuer in Australia for five years before returning to the UK.

"Jon has a great track record and has settled exceptionally well on his return to the UK, he is currently developing his skills on our internal training programme, along with three trainees," explains James Wattrus.

Moving over to the hybrid sector now where Chester-Le-Street agency BeeMyHome has hired a new full-time administration assistant to manage a new £300,000 student rental contract.

Vicky Wyatt will be responsible for meeting students and dealing with enquiries at the 43-bed St James Street student property development in central Newcastle.

"I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining BeeMyHome. Estate agency is an entirely new career path for me but I’ve been following the business for a while and I’m excited to become part of the team," says Vicky.

There's also been a new appointment at leading home moving website reallymoving.com, where Chris Buckingham has been appointed as head of sales.

Chris joins from storage company Love Space and has previously worked for Safestore Self Storage. He will be responsible for all of reallymoving's partner panels, including removals, conveyancing and surveyors.

"We are thrilled to have Chris join us as Head of Sales. This is a pivotal time for the business as we look ahead to our twentieth year with ambitious expansion plans," says Rosie Rogers, reallymoving's chief operating officer.

"Chris’s sales experience is exactly what we need to continue our strong growth."

Earlier this week, the Property Ombudsman (TPO) scheme announced a series of systems and board changes.

With the aim of promoting greater efficiency, TPO has replaced its board and council with a single unitary board. This means pressing issues will no longer have to be approved by two separate parties.

The unitary board will be chaired by Baroness Diana Warwick, while former chairman Gerry Fitzjohn and former vice-chairman Michael Stoop will both take up non-executive director positions.

Michael will also be chairing the Industry Forum and a separate Consumer Forum will be chaired by Mark McLaren.

And finally, we've got news of an appointment at law firm Shakespeare Martineau. Louise Drew has been promoted to head of its national real estate group.

Louise will be overseeing all of the teams and functions within the firm’s real estate group, including planning, construction, environmental, residential development, regeneration and projects and infrastructure.

She plays an active role in shaping and commentating on UK housing policy, and has contributed towards the Government’s HAPPI3 report, which focuses on housing the country’s ageing population.

"The real estate sector forms a huge part of the UK economy, spanning the delivery of everything from student accommodation and buy-to-let, through to later living and commercial development," says Louise.

"The work is fast-paced and offers a real chance to influence the places people live and work across the country."

That's it for this week. Good luck to all those starting new roles over the coming days.
