Michael Gove has been sacked as Housing Secretary as Prime Minister Boris Johnson continues to reject calls to resign.
Johnson was hit by more than 30 ministerial resignations today including from housing minister Stuart Andrew.
Gove was absent from Prime Minister’s Questions this afternoon and was reported earlier to have told Johnson to quit.
Other Cabinet colleagues, including Gove, are also reported to have told Johnson he needs to stand down.
But it is now being widely reported that Gove has been sacked.
Gove was appointed Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities in September 2021 and is the most high profile departure since Rishi Sunak quit as chancellor and Sajid Javid stepped down as Health Secretary yesterday.
