Auction House has sold its 2,000th lot of 2013 – and believes it is the first property auctioneer in the UK to achieve the total this year.

The milestone was reached six weeks earlier than last year.

The successful lot in question was Ashfield House, a 17-bedroom Grade II listed former nursing home in Thornton, West Yorkshire, dating back to the mid-19th century. The property had been guided at £175,000 to £225,000, but sold for £341,000.

Auction House founding director Roger Lake said: “We originally expected to sell our 2,000th lot in early December – as we did last year. But the sheer number of properties being listed with us and our 79% success rate this year has meant that we reached our target early.

“It means that this will be yet another record year for Auction House, with entries looking very healthy for the final quarter of 2013.”

Meanwhile, the largest ever catalogue produced by Network Auctions went under the hammer at the Cumberland Hotel at Marble Arch with a sales success rate of 73% from the 54 lots offered.

A record number of legal packs were downloaded prior to the auction and, in total, just over £3m was raised by the sale of lots, which came from over 20 counties across the UK

Auctioneer Richard Worrall was kept busy with bids in the room, by proxy, by telephone and over the internet.
