Key property dates for agents’ diaries
01 March 2017 6301 Views
One thing that can be guaranteed in the property world each year is a range of conferences and awards dinners. Very often these events can be great places to network, meet like-minded people, listen to expert speakers and presentations, and introduce yourself to property companies promoting their various products at stands and stalls.
The property calendar is always filled with exciting dates for the diary, and there are quite a few coming up in the next few months.
ARLA Conference & Exhibition
ARLA, which has recently undergone a significant rebrand and is now known as ARLA Propertymark, is holding its annual Conference & Exhibition on Tuesday 28 March 2017 at London’s ExCel. Three keynote speakers will be in attendance – ITV’s Political Editor Robert Peston, current Housing Minister Gavin Barwell and former Cabinet minister and Conservative leader William Hague.
The biggest and best-attended event in the world of lettings, the ARLA Conference includes delegates from all over the country and all parts of the industry. As well as various talks, debates, presentations, addresses and, of course, the keynote presentations themselves, this year’s conference will include a courtroom style hearing on the recent controversial changes to Right to Rent checks, entitled Court Case: Right to Rent on Trial.
The conference is split up into four sessions, with coffee breaks and lunch in-between. The exhibition part of the event also allows a host of exhibitors to highlight innovative products and services to the many letting agents in attendance, as well as being an excellent chance for networking. As the private rented sector’s biggest event of the year, its standing as one of the key property-related dates in the diary is in little dispute.
PropTech events
Elsewhere, as if to highlight the growing influence of PropTech, there are two conferences combining property and technology taking place in May 2017. Both the events are held in the capital, with Propteq Europe 2017 held on Thursday 11 May at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel near the Tower of London. The event attracts 300 attendees from more than 25 countries. Its primary focus is, of course, all things PropTech, with leading property innovators carrying out talks and presentations and exhibiting new and fresh ideas.
Networking is at the heart of the event, with VIP Lounges, exhibits, co-hosted talks and numerous opportunities to interact with fellow delegates. In the past it has drawn big names and organisations, from Google and Zoopla to RICS and Property Software Group.
The other big PropTech event takes place the week before, on Thursday May 4 2017, at the Grade II-listed Victoria House in Bloomsbury Square. FUTURE: PropTech, which runs conferences across Europe, is now onto its third annual conference in London, bringing together more than 800 attendees from both the growing PropTech market and the traditional property sector. The latest disruptors and innovators in the industry get the chance to showcase their work, while new brands are launched, talks are carried out and various exhibitors exhibit their technology solutions for the property market.
There is ample scope for networking, a dedicated area to interact with the property industry press, roundtable discussions and immersive showcases. As Europe’s largest PropTech conference, it draws a truly international crowd, with attendees from all over the world. It also attracts a wide range of high-profile companies, including Barclays, Google and PwC. For anyone interested in the emerging PropTech market, it’s a must-attend event.
Last, but by no means least, there is The ESTAS (or The Estate Agent of the Year Awards), which takes place on Friday 12 May 2017 at Grosvenor House Hotel, London. With awards presented by property TV royalty Phil Spencer, more than 1,000 guests descend on the biggest awards nights in the industry each year, with gongs handed out to agencies, brokers, conveyancers, homebuilders and suppliers.
Attending the above events has various benefits – whether it be networking, listening to interesting, engaging talks and speakers, attending roundtable discussions, learning about new technology or testing out the latest innovative PropTech products.
