eMoov boss Russell Quirk and a senior member of his management team have been targeted in a fraud scam.
Yesterday morning the head of eMoov’s financial department, Nicole Street, received an email - apparently from Quirk, eMoov’s chief executive - requesting the immediate transfer of £80,000 to an external account.
The email sender was displayed on her phone simply as Russell Quirk, but on closer examination in turned out that it had been sent from an email address similar to Quirk’s - but not his real one.
Street then perued an email dialogue with the fraudulent sender, who was still claiming to be Quirk, whilst discreetly alerting the police.
It was later discovered that the domain bearing the fake email address had been set up only a few hours earlier and registered to a company name based in Lagos, Nigeria.
Thankfully everyone at eMoov ended up without any loss of funds, although the scope for sarcasm from the rest of the estate agency world - at the potential loss of money through dodgy online activity - will doubtless be reflected in the comments section of this story!

I wonder what she initially thought the £80,000 was for?!
Worrying how these scams can unfold - but as demonstrated in this case it must be rare for people to fall for them
I knew Russell said he'd created a higher fee model. .......... :-)
There we go Trevor - now paying £80,000 to eMoov to sell your property is expensive!
