An online agency called Be Street Smart is seeking to recruit so-called ‘Property Gurus’ in just two weeks - but says estate agency experience is not necessary.
The firm says the individuals it wants will be “local people with local knowledge - not necessarily with any estate agency experience” and their income will be “rewarded” on the basis of positive online reviews rather than sales success.
Be Street Smart is a franchise operation which started last year but is is launching, with these new gurus, on March 1.
Like innumerable online start-ups it says it is a “disruptive” platform aiming to be “the Uber of buying and letting” with a radically different staffing structure offering “a new, customer-centric model for the industry.”
The firm’s press release says the gurus can work flexible family-friendly hours and have to make no initial investment - although it does not specify at which point this will change. It claims franchisees will receive “uncapped earnings including equity and profit shares.”
It says some gurus have already signed up and have “embraced the approach, citing the freedom, responsibility and flexibility of the roles as the key reasons behind their decision to join.”

Sounds like something out of The League of Gentlemen, doesn't it? Anyway, I get their point and what they're trying to do, but I'm not sure it's the right way to go.
Interesting and innovative but ultimately doomed to failure, I fear.
Yes, it reminded me of TLOG as well. I tend to agree with your wider point, too - the whole property guru things sound s a bit naff. A bit too marketing-speak for my liking.
I also think the Uber of buying and letting is a tad ambitious. I'm all for ambition, but let's not get ahead of ourselves too much, shall we?
'The Uber of estate agency' - heard that one before. 'uncapped earnings' - heard that one before too. Nothing new here except for the fact that they're looking to hire anyone and everyone in a two week period...
