The Advertising Standards Authority has intervened following a complaint about a mailshot from the high profile online agency Yopa.
The ASA says the complainant received a mailshot offering home selling services; however, they challenged whether the envelope was clearly recognisable as marketing material.
The ASA contacted Yopa - the online agency which has financial backing from Savills and LSL Property Services amongst others - and was given assurances that future mailshots of that kind would be identifiable as marketing going forward.
Just two weeks ago Estate Agent Today reported that Yopa removed an ad comparing its performance against other estate agents after complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority.
The dispute centred on the Yopa website which featured a comparison table of different estate agents including the number of properties they listed and their average listing age.
In October 2016 Yopa amended the content of its website following a complaint to the ASA about the amount customers allegedly saved.
In all three cases, including the latest, the ASA classed the complaints as informally resolved.

Yawn
People just complain for complaining sake.
Does the envelope have to be clearly recognisable as advertising material? Since when?
This is news to me- if this is not permitted than 90% of all London agents I know are in breach. Bt all means police what people are claiming but this is just daft! The fact that mailshots like this are usually addressed to the 'occupier/homeowner' is surely a give away!?
..... or the gas bill payer.
