Online agency Purplebricks says an absence of technology in property details is one of the biggest turn-offs for potential buyers.
A survey of 2,000 adults shows deterrents for buyers include too few photos on the property details and no video content online.
Not having a floorplan, rooms decorated in garish colours and having dirty clothes on show are other no-no’s when selling a property.
The study also found that in the age of virtual viewings, one in six even believe if a property was what they wanted, they’d be willing to put in an offer without setting foot in the door should the video and/or fly-through be good enough.
And more than a third of homeowners expect virtual viewings to become the norm now when house hunting.
Angela Wallace from Purplebricks says: “The current pandemic has thrown up many new challenges for buyers and sellers across the UK. But this has heralded a new era of virtual house hunting and homeowners are quickly adopting this new way of buying and selling homes.
“Buyers are enjoying the speed and ease of doing viewings from the comfort of their own sofa, and sellers have welcomed a new way to show off their property - so it’s more important than ever to make a great virtual first impression.”
Selling 'from the exterior' was also important to 19 per cent, who want to see a home looking smart from the outside as well as inside.
Other turn offs include dark and small areas, overgrown gardens and dirty trainers left lying around.

Agents have certainly had to innovate due to COVID with virtual viewings etc but it's post offer where the biggest pressure points exist. We believe vendors should get ahead by readying themselves legally - order a seller's search pack find FENSA certificates, boiler maintenance paperwork. Buyers should check inherent risks in the appropriate postcode area via our free hazard checker, get an offer accepted and then order their buyers search pack which can be presented directly to their chosen conveyancer. Many local authorities are now extending search turn around times so waiting several weeks before ordering the pack seems counterintuitive to us.
Imagine purplebricks reading this and taking it on board.
I've no doubt that they're doing that right now.
After all, they do have a 50% market share of all online activities!
