Ex-Purplebricks staff set up new agency and reveal big expansion

The self-employed partnership known as The Agency UK - founded by three refugees from Purplebricks - has announced a major expansion.

The company was set up by Andy Vass, Mark Bruce and Steph Walker earlier this year; it was originally in the south of England with plans to roll out across the UK.

Each agent working with The Agency UK has their own local market and is solely responsible for its property portfolio; meanwhile the company centrally provides individual operators with new instruction leads, admin, IT, support functions, a branded website, and marketing tools and PR.

Joining the south east fleet is Steve Webb in Ventnor, Alexandra Hearn in Brighton/Hove, Christian Tatton and Jon Lawson in Kent and Paul Hillyer in Farnborough.

The company’s latest Partner in the east is Tim Giles in Woodbridge/Aldeburgh, whilst the next set of south west Partners are Kate Ellis in St Austell, James Taylor in Newton Abbot/Teignmouth/Chudleigh, Tom Bell in Weymouth, Tom Constable in Bristol and Dominic Randell in Swindon.

Meanwhile Zoe Jones launches The Agency UK Partnership in South Liverpool, and in the coming weeks there will be further partners named for the North West and East Midlands.

In a promotional statement announce the expansion,  one existing agent - Tim Giles in Suffolk - comments: “I partnered with The Agency UK so I could have the ability to run my estate agency business my way, with the support of a larger company who were able to offer back office assistance and provide a culture where great ideas are shared.

“The company have exceeded all my expectations to date, with business going really well as a result with my property and applicant database now growing and growing. For example, I managed to instruct my first property shortly after partnering with The Agency UK where I found a buyer in just two weeks.

“I have also been able to design personal marketing materials such as local advertising and video technology, as well as promote my clients’ homes to the widest possible audience through national PR.”

The statement also cites Kate Ellis in Cornwall saying: “I am very excited to have joined The Agency UK, and have already fully embraced the ideal work life balance – something that has become especially important since the nation was hit by a global pandemic.”

One of the founding trio, Steph Walker, says: “We are delighted to have received so much support so quickly, especially when we are in the midst of a global pandemic.

“Estate agents, some of whom have come from big corporate companies, are recognising the benefits of working for themselves, as well as providing a superior service to clients by offering one senior professional from start to finish and the marketing tools required to promote their homes to the widest possible audience.

“We want our agents to be the go-to agents in their local area for these unique reasons in order to help them win new instructions and attract plenty of buyer interest. The feedback from the network has been really encouraging so far, and we are looking forward to welcoming others on board in the near future.”

The Agency UK says it’s still on the hunt for more agents to join.

How is this any different from Remax, Keller Williams, Century 21, or Ewe Move? None of which have a great track record of successful franchisees in the UK so far as I'm aware. And if they're going to mimic PB, then let's all take a look and how terribly Yopa is doing.

Yopa - are they still going? Last time I checked they were busy deleting all those videos from a few years ago to pretend they never existed. Seemed to spend more time doing that than actual agency.

For all the huge sums pumped in and the considerable backing they have, they've never broken through.

I say good luck to all! Self employed agency isn't for everyone but it definitely works for some.

Well done guys, you were part of PB phase 1, the founders, part of the elite who left with heads held high and you deserve all the success in the world. Well done Steph, Vass and Mark x
